New EU rules against greenwashing are changing how companies can make environmental claims. At Hetki, we look at what this means in practice for Finnish outdoor saunas: the materials we use, construction and energy use, longevity, wood traceability and certification, and our own carbon footprint assessment. We don't claim to have sustainability fully figured out. Instead, we explain what we know and can support and where we still need to improve. Better questions can help us

Why does Hetki build authentic Finnish saunas but not infrared? For founder Janne Oksanen, the answer comes from a lifetime with sauna, the meaning of löyly, research into health and wellbeing, and a conscious choice about what Hetki stands for. This is a personal story about Finnish sauna culture, why infrared is a different experience, and why purpose and values should shape what a company makes, even when saying yes to something else might make good commercial sense.

What does science really tell us about the health benefits of Finnish sauna? A new 2026 study from Finland shows that humidity created by löyly influences the body’s physiological response independently of temperature. We look at the latest research on sauna, cardiovascular health, blood pressure, cognitive health and wellbeing, why the type of sauna studied matters, and why evidence from Finnish sauna research should not automatically be applied to infrared heat exposure.

Is sauna actually Finnish sauna, or is Finnish sauna simply sauna? In Finland, sauna needs no qualifier. It is a natural part of everyday life. Yet globally, the term is used for many different heat-based experiences. At its core, sauna is defined by heat, air, moisture, and löyly. So when everything is called a sauna, what does the word really mean?

The law of löyly is often seen as a defining rule of a proper Finnish sauna, yet the reality is more nuanced. It explains how heat is distributed and felt, and why balanced warmth matters for a comfortable and authentic sauna experience. At the same time, good löyly is never created by one rule alone, but by the harmony of design, materials, ventilation, heater, and use. In the end, what truly matters is how the sauna feels to the person inside.

Why does fresh air matter so much in a Finnish sauna? This article explores sauna ventilation and the role of proper airflow in creating soft löyly, good air quality, and a calm, breathable sauna experience. From traditional Finnish sauna design to modern saunas, we explain why fresh air gives life to the sauna and how balanced ventilation shapes how a sauna truly feels.
